The previous generation of Mi Mix got a quite a lot of appreciation from the mobile experts all around the world thanks to its design. Though the first generation phone Mi Mix was not a practical, friendly phone, it still gave a new design trend to the major smartphone makers of the world.
Followed by the bezel-less technology seen in Xiaomi Mi Mix, a lot of phone makers have started following the bezel-less trend that we are now seeing in almost every flagship device, for instance- Samsung S8, Samsung Note 8, LG V30, and most probably the iPhone X will follow the trend too.
Just a year later after Mi Mix, Xiaomi has pretty much made the phone practical by almost maintaining the design from Mi Mix. Xiaomi Mi Mix just came as expected- minimum bezels, great specs, decent camera specs, but how it stands as a complete smartphone package? Let's find out.
The most highlighting feature of Mi Mix 2 is its display just like its predecessor. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is coupled with 5.99-inch 2160 x 1080 display. The display has very tiny bezels on all the sides with a tiny chin at the bottom to fit in the front camera.
The phone is slightly taller with an aspect ratio of 18:9. At the same time, it is a good thing as well because it makes the phone taller hence better gripping in one hand. The phone is also more rounded than the original Mi Mix, which was edgy at the sides.
Mi Mix 2 has a 5-megapixel sensor at the front. Though again the user will need to turn the phone upside down to take the selfies just like the case with Mi Mix.
For the rear side, we get the same Mi6 camera of a 12-megapixel sensor with 4-axis OIS, but sadly there is no fancy dual-camera setup. Non-inclusion of dual-camera setup is a bad news as the phone you are buying today will be with you for a year or two and you definitely don't want to miss out on the feature which every flagship today is coming with.
Mi Mix 2 has an actual speaker at the front unlike a piezoelectric ceramic driver found on original Mi Mix.
Mi Mix 2 comes with the latest Snapdragon 835 chip with two RAM options - 6GB and 8GB. The 8GB will be available in the special ceramic edition only while the 6GB variant will be a general unit. On the storage part, there are three options available for the user to choose from between 64/128/256GB with the special ceramic edition features 128GB of storage.
To manage the bezel-less display and keep the phone slim, Xiaomi has ditched the headphone jack in Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, with the phone no longer featuring audio jack.
The 5.99-inch display phone has got a 3400mAh battery as a power supply, it might be very early to say how the battery will perform until a real time test is done. Obviously, the phone has USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing.
The pricing is set as below:
- 6GB RAM/64GB Internal- CNY 3,299 (roughly 32,400 INR)
- 8GB RAM/128GB Internal- CNY 3,599 (roughly 35,300 INR)
- 8GB RAM Ceramic version- CNY 3,999 (roughly 39,300 INR)
Though it is very unclear when the phone will make an entry in India very soon.
