Half of the population hasn't got the Android N update yet but here's our beloved Google back with Android O. Though the official launch may take a while, the Nexus 5x, 6p users along with Pixel users can update their devices to the latest OS. As the build is early, there are bugs, but the experience is like never before. The device feels so smooth and crisp that we will recommend every user with the supporting device to update their phone right away.
Here's everything you need to know.
Android O will have a better battery life. It'll also help in better management of the apps in the background. The apps closed go into a special memory with the help of an algorithm that helps in saving battery and proper RAM management. When the notification is received, the algo automatically brings the app into RAM and lets the system run smoothly.
There are major updates made in Quick apps, which let the apps load way faster.
App badage is also added in Android O. This feature is basically a notification counter for all the apps. The user can allow/disallow a particular app to gain the app badage access.
Major changes will be made in developers end, and not much of updates are visible in UI. The security updates are introduced.
Major changes are seen in the settings panel. The settings panel is much more convenient to access, though the user may take a while to get used to it. There are no more umbrella icons like- WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.
There's a layout option that lets you choose between normal, compact, left-leaning or right-leaning, users can find the same in settings. The one hand usage experience is also improved in Android O.
Unknown Sources: Installing an apk in Android version till Android N is simple, but in Android O, the game is a little bit different. The user will need to gain the permission at the time of downloading an apk. For example: Downloading apk from Chrome will require the Chrome access first then the user can install the apk.
The name is not decided yet and will not be decided till the official launch. Though the estimation is there that the Android O will be named as Oreo.
Though there are many add-ons, Android O has got a new look on the lock screen. The notifications are now much smaller and cool. The devices which use pixel algo- the algo in which only the pixel lights up consumes the battery, will be having a better battery life.
The user will need to tap on the particular notification to see it.
The notification panel has got some improvement, with minimal design.
There is not much of a difference in quick settings panel. Though few shortcuts are added.
The official launch will take a while, though the Android one users can expect the port very soon. For supported devices, you can get the update from here. The Official launch will come somewhere in August-September.
