Nokia 8 Launched In India: Is It A Better Buy Than OnePlus 5?

Nokia launched its most awaited Nokia 8 on 17th August in an event in London. And after a wait of around a month, people of India can finally buy the flagship from the house of Nokia as HMD Global launched the device here in India at an event in New Delhi. HMD Global who handles Nokia, was expected to launch Nokia 8 in somewhere in October but the early launch is a bliss for Nokia fans. The new device from Nokia comes with flagship specs and pricing too. As expected, Nokia has partnered with Carl Zeiss for the camera lens at the back as we have already seen Nokia in talks with Carl Zeiss. The phone will be directly competing with the killers in this segment like OnePlus 5 and Samsung S8 here in India. Though the device has good hardware, the phone misses on the looks to some extent with no inclusion of the bezel-less display. Let's check out the specs, price and availability of the Nokia 8 and the winner between it and OnePlus 5 will be revealed at the end of the article.

The device has a 5.3-inch 2K display and though the device doesn't come with any bezel-less display, the device still looks very much premium.  Hardware in Nokia 8 seems to be top-notch as the device comes with Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The device is coupled with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. Yes, the device comes with 64GB storage option only but there will be a hybrid variant too for memory expandability.

A 5.3-inch 2K display will indeed need more of a battery but unluckily there is a 3090mAh battery. However, the Quick Charge 3.0 technology in the phone can help with the charge time. The battery is non-removable.

The phone is pretty slim measuring at just 4.6mm thick at the edges and 7.9mm at the camera bump. The company is also ensuring Android O update but the device will be running on Android 7.1.1 out-of-the-box.

Android O

"One of the fastest ways of getting [Android] O will be to get our new flagship," HMD Global's Sarvikas said.

I know the camera is the probably the most awaited thing we have been waiting for and Nokia doesn't disappoint on that part. The device is rocking dual Carl Zeiss 13-megapixel lens at the rear. For the front part, the device has the same 13-megapixel camera module as the selfie shooter. Both the lenses are capable of shooting 4K videos.

The phone does maintain the 3.5mm audio jack. The phone is glossy from the back it means it will definitely attract fingerprints.

Dual Sight mode

The phone supports Dual Sight mode which enables the user to access both the cameras (front and rear) at the same time in a split-screen mode. The user can enjoy this tech on Facebook Live mode too. Nokia 8 is the first ever device to feature anything like this.

OZO Audio

Nokia 8 comes with OZO Audio which enables the 360-degree audio pushing. Again, Nokia claims that Nokia 8 is the first ever device to get this feature.

The device will be available in glossy Polished Copper and Polished Blue colours, as well as matte Tempered Blue and Steel finishes. The device is also said to be IP54 certified confirming the device can manage few water splashes.

The device was globally priced at EUR 599 but here in India, the phone will be available at Rs 36999. The device is priced at a sweet spot and will be taking on OnePlus 5 directly. Though comparing the specs between both the smartphones, OnePlus 5 is still a true winner. But the Nokia fans can still get Nokia 8 if they are not a power user with heavy smartphone usage. The smartphone will be available from October 14 on Amazon India, Croma, Reliance Digital and few other offline options. The Nokia 8 will be available in Polished Blue Tempered Blue, and Steel colour variants. The Polished Blue Tempered Blue will be making an entry a few weeks later via a sale on Amazon. Share the news and let people make a decent choice.
